By the Pac-12 Conference
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced the Pac-12 Women's Basketball Players of the Week today for the week of February 18-24. Arizona's Davellyn Whyte was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week, while Colorado's Arielle Roberson was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.
A guard from Phoenix, Davellyn Whyte averaged 24.5 points, 14.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists, while shooting 47.2 percent from the floor to lead the Wildcats in a pair of close losses to traditional rival Arizona State. Whyte opened the week posting the first triple-double in program history and the 16th in Pac-12 history. She led all players with 31 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists in an 81-77 double-overtime loss in Tucson, Ariz. She followed up with an 18-point, 12 rebound performance in a one-point loss to the Sun Devils (59-58) while also adding seven assists. On Sunday, she became only the second player in Arizona women's basketball history to score 2,000+ career points and only the 14th player in league history to reach the milestone.
Arielle Roberson (San Antonio, Texas) has been named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season, the most of any league freshman to date. Roberson led Colorado in scoring in a pair of important home wins over the Washington schools. She averaged 16.5 points and eight rebounds, hitting 67 percent from long range. Roberson recorded her first-career double-double in the win over Washington State, tallying 17 points and a career best of 13 boards. She then scored 16 points to lead CU in the win over Washington. She went 2-of-3 from 3-point range for the second consecutive game and has made nine of her last 15 attempts from beyond the arc (.600). She was also a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity strip, a personal free throw high without a miss.
It is Whyte's first weekly honor this season and the second of her career. It is also Arizona's 40th all-time weekly recognition. Roberson was the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week three out of the first four weeks of the season.
Arizona remains at home for the final week of regular-season league action, hosting USC on Friday, March 1 and No. 17 UCLA on Sunday, March 3. Both games will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks. Colorado hits the road for Oregon on Friday, then Oregon State on Sunday to close out the regular season.
