Powell's game-tying dunk a fraction too late

Beaten by the clock. All that prevented Stanford from extending its tense battle with Colorado Wednesday night were fractions of a second. The whole melodrama began with just 2.4 seconds left in regulation and the Cardinal down 65-63 to the visiting Buffaloes. Coming out of a timeout, Stanford got the ball to big man Dwight Powell. He snaked through the Buffs' defense and found a clear path to the basket for a dramatic last second dunk. Time itself was the only defender left to deny him. {C}{C}

In a twist of irony, the referees halted Tad Boyle's celebratory sprint to the locker room until they could officially verify Powell's slam came after the buzzer. Unlike the torturous wait in Tucson to start the season, the Buffs' quickly received confirmation the clock had indeed favored them at Maples Pavilion.
