Utah, Washington earn WNIT bids

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12's UTAH and WASHINGTON were two of 64 teams selected to participate in the Women's National Invitational Tournament, it was announced Monday night. With their selections, the Conference has six teams selected for postseason action, with four teams earning NCAA Tournament bids earlier today.
The Utes are making their ninth-straight postseason appearance; their second-straight in the WNIT. Utah will travel to Long Beach State on Wednesday, March 20 for its first-round matchup. Utah won 18 games this season and went 8-10 in Pac-12 play to finish sixth in the standings. LBSU goes into the tournament with a 16-15 record overall. The winner of this game goes on to play the winner of the San Diego-Hawai'i game that will be held in San Diego on Thursday, March 21.
The Huskies host Eastern Washington in the first round of the WNIT on Friday, March 22. UW was fifth in the Pac-12, its best finish since the 2006-07 season, posting an 11-7 record. It was Washington's first winning record in league play since the 2006-07 campaign. The Huskies are 20-11 overall for their second-straight 20-win campaign, marking their first back-to-back 20-win season since the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. The winner of this game goes on to face the winner of Pacific and UALR.
Host sites for the second round of the WNIT will be announced after the results of first-round games.
UW and Utah join NCAA Tournament squads CALIFORNIA, COLORADO, STANFORD and UCLA in postseason action. The NCAA Tournament begins on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24.
