Washington holds lead after early session

CORVALLIS, Ore. - The 2013 Pac-12 Women’s Gymnastics Championships kicked off Saturday afternoon with Arizona, Arizona State, California and Washington all competing in the first session at Gill Coliseum on the Oregon State University campus.

The Huskies came out on top of session one with a final total of 195.875. Arizona earned a 195.525, taking the second-highest score of the session. California and Arizona State followed behind totaling a 195.075 and 193.425, respectively.

All the top individual spots were taken with a score of 9.90. Arizona’s Aubree Cristello claimed the top spot on vault, floor and the all-around with a 39.425 after the first session. Arizona State’s Kahoku Palafox holds the top spot on bars, while Washington’s Paige Bixler is first on beam after the first session.

California led after the first rotation with a 49.150 and Washington was in second place with a 48.850. Arizona was standing in third place (48.800), while Arizona State sat in fourth (47.875). After the second rotation the Huskies pulled even with the Golden Bears, while the Wildcats and Sun Devils held their places at third and fourth, respectively. Things switched up a bit after the third event as California fell into third place and Washington was the lone leader with a 147.150. The Wildcats climbed to second place, totaling a 146.450 entering the final rotation. After a tough vault performance, the Sun Devils sat in fourth with a 144.475.

Session two, featuring top-seeded Utah, along with No. 2 UCLA, No. 3 Oregon State and No. 4 Stanford, begins at 7 p.m. PT and will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks.
