Pac-12 softball season rolls along

Conference play began last week with CALIFORNIA claiming its first sweep of the season over UTAH, and WASHINGTON earning the series victory over ARIZONA. ARIZONA STATE took two of the three games over UCLA. OREGON visits the Huskies this week with the Wildcats traveling to the Utes. OREGON STATE is on spring break and is heading to the sun and warmth of the Sun Devils. The Bruins only have a short trip up north to STANFORD for a three-game series with games on the Pac-12 Networks both Thursday and Friday, March 28 and 29. The Ducks and the Huskies are also featured on the Networks on Friday, with OSU and ASU being televised on Saturday. A California vs. Arizona double-header will be aired on the Pac-12 Networks on Tuesday, April 2.

This Week in Pac-12 Softball

• Winning Washington - Washington won its conference-opening series for the fourth-straight year. The Huskies claimed the first ever series victory on the road over Arizona.

• Look at those new digs - The Utes host the inaugural game in Utah Softball Stadium this week against Utah Valley and the first-ever Pac-12 series in its new home against No. 14 Arizona.

• Winning, winning, winning - Pac-12 Conference teams have a combined winning percentage of .749, higher than the SEC (.743), Big Ten (.598), ACC (.55), Big 12 (.731), Big West (.526) and the Sun Belt (.529). All of these conferences are among those with at least one team ranked in the NFCA poll.

• Hot on the Bats - Pac-12 teams hot on the offensive side of the ball making contact with the bat and scoring runs. Teams are more than doubling the amount of runs scored compared to their opponents totaling 1,655 so far this season compared to just 692 by their opponents. Teams are also outhitting their opponents by large marks recording 2,303 hits with just 1,422 by opponents.

• Dont step on our turf - Pac-12 teams mean business on the home fields with just shy of a 90 percent winning record at home, a combined record of 71-8. ARIZONA STATE leads the Conference with a 25-1 record at home after hosting four tournaments at the beginning of the season and claiming their dominance at home early.

• Offensive Attack - Arizona State is leading the Conference in almost every offensive category possible. The Sun Devils lead in batting avg (.361), slugging percentage (.603), on-base percentage (.446), runs scored (266), hits (344), runs batted in (244), doubles (66), home runs (53) and total bases (575).
