Three Pac-12 teams advance to NCAA gymnastics championships
Three Pac-12 women’s gymnastics teams and five Pac-12 individual gymnasts advanced past NCAA Regionals Saturday and will head to UCLA’s historic Pauley Pavilion April 19-21 to compete at the 2013 NCAA championships.
Among the eight Pac-12 teams that competed around the nation for a bid to the NCAA championships, Stanford, UCLA and Utah each earned trips to the team finals consisting of the top 12 teams in the country. Stanford finished second at the Norman Regional with a 196.800, UCLA placed second at the Columbus Regional with a score of 196.950 and Utah placed second at the Tuscaloosa Regional with a score of 196.400.
In addition to sending three teams to the championships, the Pac-12 also will send four gymnasts as independent all-around competitors and one gymnast as an event specialist. The individual all-around competitors advancing to nationals are Arizona’s Aubree Cristello, who scored 39.375 at the Columbus Regional, Washington’s Lauren Rogers, who scored 39.375 at the Norman Regional, Oregon State’s Chelsea Tang, who scored 39.300 at the Corvallis Regional and OSU’s Brittany Harris, who scored 39.125 at the Corvallis Regional. The Beavers’ Makayla Stambaugh also advanced to the championships as an individual event specialist on floor by tying for first with a score of 9.95.
