Six Pac-12 softball players earn academic all district honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Six Pac-12 softball players were named to the Capital One Academic All-America District VIII team, selected by CoSIDA. ARIZONA STATE's Sam Parlich and Bailey Wigness, CALIFORNIA's Lindsey Ziegenhirt,  OREGON's Alexa Peterson and WASHINGTON's Bryana Walker and Hooch Fagaly were all named to the first team and are now eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be selected later this month.

Parlich, a native of Chandler, Ariz., studies family and human development and has earned a 3.63 GPA. The senior infielder has 75 assists ranking third on the Sun Devil team and has tallied 71 putouts. She's fielded 14 double plays on the year.

Wigness, a junior outfielder has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA. The Casa Grande, Ariz., native studies political science and communication. She leads ASU in stolen bases on the season with 13, which ties for sixth in the Pac-12. She touts a perfect 1.00 fielding percentage.

Ziegenhirt, a senior catcher (Elk Grove, Calif.) maintained a 3.77 GPA in psychology. The senior has a .311 batting average and leads the Golden Bears in slugging with a .756 percentage as well as runs batted in with 49. She has 15 home runs on the year, which is seven more than her closest teammate, and ties her for fourth in the Pac-12.

Peterson, a junior designated hitter, boasts a 3.41 GPA in communication disorder sciences. She leads the Pac-12 in batting average, hitting .467 so far this season. She also leads the pack, slugging .860 and with an on-base percentage of .565.

Walker, a native of La Quinta, Calif., is studying psychology and has earned a 3.59 GPA. The junior pitcher boasts a 2.84 ERA and has pitched 135.1 innings on the year. She's earned 19 wins on the season and has a .650 win-loss percentage. The junior leads UW, striking out 147 batters starting in 27 games this year.

Fagaly carries a 3.36 GPA in anthropology. The junior infielder who hails from Chino, Calif. leads the Huskies in slugging, boasting a .654 slugging percentage, and is second on the team with a .362 batting average. She also leads the team in on-base percentage at .509 and has scored 34 runs on the year.
