Rich and Moore named Pac-12 softball players of the week
By the Pac-12 Conference
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 softball weekly honors for the week of April 29- May 5. STANFORD senior shortstop Jenna Rich was named the Player of the Week. OREGON senior pitcher Jessica Moore was voted the Pitcher of the Week.
Rich led Stanford offensively to its first-ever series sweep over rival CALIFORNIA. Rich went 7-for-16, hitting .438 on the weekend to go along with 10 RBI, an .875 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. In the first game of the series on Friday, the Cardinal topped then-No. 12 ranked Cal 13-5. Rich broke the Stanford career RBI record as she hit a three-run homer. She now has 210 RBI in her career, passing the previous mark of 201 set in 2002. In the five-inning 17-2 victory on Saturday, Stanford had its largest margin of victory over Cal in program history. Rich hit a two-run single and scored two runs in the game. She went 3-for-4 on Sunday in the 7-5 win, which included a double and another home run. Rich played flawlessly on the defensive side of the ball as she recorded no errors on the week.
Moore won all three of her starts this past weekend and allowed only two hits in all three of her five-plus inning appearances, two of which were complete games. She posted nine strikeouts in the 4-0 win over Seattle and the 8-0 win over OREGON STATE. She added five more strikeouts in her other start on the week. For the week she led the team in wins (3), innings (17) and starts (3). She improved her school career records for wins (97), strikeouts (875) innings (862) and appearances (168). Moore allowed just two hits in each game she pitched. She also helped boost the offensive side of the ball as she hit a home run against both Seattle, a two-run first-inning blast, and against OSU, a sixth-inning solo homer. She had a team-high 1.500 slugging mark on the week. The Ducks claimed their first-ever Pac-12 title last week and raised their home record on the season to a perfect 16-0.
This is Rich's first Player of the Week award and the 53rd honor for Stanford all-time. It is the fourth Pitcher of the Week honor for Moore and her second this season. It is the 42nd honor for Oregon.
