Women's NCAA tennis championship under way with two Pac-12 teams
Two of the five Pac-12 women's tennis teams participating in the NCAA tournament took to the court Friday. Both the California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal hosted their opening round matches and won, advancing to the tournament's second round.
The Golden Bears, seeded eighth, defeated Stony Brook in Berkeley by a count of 4-0. They'll return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. PT to face the Tigers of Auburn who arrive after beating St. Mary's, 4-2. Meanwhile, things were equally as easy for the Cardinal who swept Miami (OH) out of the tournament. Playing in Palo Alto, the 12th seeded Cardinal will take on the Rice Owls this Saturday at 1pm PST.
Not playing on Friday were the UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans and ASU Sun Devils. Both the Bruins (#7) and Trojans (#5) are seeded and host their opening-round opponents on Saturday at noon PT. The unranked Sun Devils will face the Oklahoma Sooners in Georgia where things will begin at 6 a.m. PT, which is also known as "early" in Tempe.
