NCAA softball: ASU advances to Women's College World Series

May 26, 2013

The Sun Devils took care of business on Sunday, advancing to the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City for the eleventh time after defeating Kentucky, 5-2, in game two of the Super Regionals. Fifth-seeded Arizona State and twelfth-seeded Kentucky were tied at 2-2 up until the fifth inning, but thanks to an RBI single in the fifth and a two-run homer from Haley Steele, the Sun Devils were able to seal their spot in OKC. Up next is Texas on Thursday, May 30 at 4 p.m. PT on ESPN2 in the opener of a best-of-three game series.

Third-seeded Oregon and fourteenth-seeded Nebraska dueled it out all day Sunday, after the Ducks pushed the series to a deciding third game with a 4-3 win in an eleven-inning game two. However, the Huskers took game three, 4-2, punching a ticket to the WCWS and leaving the Ducks behind. Oregon scored two runs in the first inning, but struggled to find their offense the rest of the game.

ASU isn't the only Pac-12 team moving on to the WCWS. Washington also advanced on Friday and will face Nebraska on Thursday, May 30 at 9 a.m. PT on ESPN2 in the opener of a best-of-three game series.
