Five named to NCBWA Freshman All-America team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. — Five Pac-12 freshmen have been named to the 2013 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Division I Freshmen All-America team, the NCBWA announced on Monday. The Conference's five representatives on the first and second teams were the most by any conference.
Oregon State starter Andrew Moore, the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year, and Arizona State reliever Ryan Burr were first-team selections, while ASU starter Ryan Kellogg and Oregon pitchers Garrett Cleavinger and Cole Irvin were second-team honorees.
Moore, a second-team Louisville Slugger All-American, is 14-1 (his 14 wins are tied for the national lead), and his 1.36 ERA ranks second in the league. Additionally, he boasts a league-leading .194 opposing batting average. He has tossed three complete-game shutouts this season, the most by an OSU pitcher in more than a decade. Oregon State's Saturday starter, Moore has tallied 70 strikeouts and issued 26 walks in 119.0 innings this season.
Burr earned honorable mention All-Conference praise after posting a 4-2 record and a 2.20 ERA in 2013. The righty struck out 60 batters with 23 walks over 45 innings and boasted a team-low .141 opposing batting average.
Kellogg, a Howser Trophy semifinalist and a second-team Louisville Slugger All-American, went 11-1 with a 3.15 ERA. The lefty struck out 54 batters while issuing 17 walks over 103 innings en route to garnering all-conference laurels. He tossed a no-hitter against Oregon State on March 23.
Irvin, an honorable mention Pac-12 selection, went 12-3 with a 2.48 ERA and posted four complete games. The left-handed starter fanned 60 batters while walking 22 over 116 innings and helped the Ducks to a school-record 48 wins.
Cleavinger posted a 9-0 record and picked up a pair of saves. The lefty reliever carried a team-best 1.24 ERA and struck out 57 batters in 43.2 innings of relief. He allowed just 20 hits in 37 appearances and did not concede a triple or a home run.
All five players were named to Collegiate Baseball newspaper's Freshman All-America team last week.
