Three Pac-12 Teams Ranked in Preseason Poll
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Three Pac-12 teams are ranked in the first National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Coaches Poll of the season that was released on Tuesday, including two ranked in the top-10. Four-time defending Pac-12 Champion STANFORD, voted No. 2 in the Pac-12 preseason coaches poll, garnered another No. 2 ranking in the NSCAA poll, while league favorite UCLA will start the year ranked No. 5, returning 9 starters from a team that advanced to the Elite 8 in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. CALIFORNIA represents the third Pac-12 team in the preseason national rankings at No. 20.
The Cardinal return six starters from a 2012 team that went 21-2-1 and reached the NCAA College Cup before suffering an overtime loss to eventual champion North Carolina. 2012 Pac-12 Conference runner-up UCLA will boast a lineup that includes five 2012 all-Conference selections, including two-time All-Conference performer and All-American defender Abby Dahlkemper. California, picked by the Conference coaches to finish behind the Bruins and the Cardinal, will have reigning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year Ifeoma Onumonu leading their attack in 2013.
The 2013 season kicks off August 23-25. The Pac-12 Networks will televise 58 live women’s soccer contests kicking off with the August 23 matchup of Northeastern at No. 5 UCLA at 6 p.m. PT.
