UCLA men’s soccer voted preseason favorite in coaches' poll

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - In a polling of the Conference’s six men’s soccer coaches, UCLA was selected as the preseason favorite to capture the 2013 Pac-12 title for the third-consecutive year, the Conference office announced today. The defending Pac-12 Champion Bruins received all five possible first-place votes for a total of 25 points. 

WASHINGTON earned 19 points to place second overall, and STANFORD followed in third place with 15 points. CALIFORNIA and SAN DIEGO STATE were separated by merely one point, as the Bears came in at fourth with 13 points and the Aztecs at fifth with 12. OREGON STATE wrapped up the preseason poll in sixth with six points. 

UCLA is looking for their third-straight and ninth overall Conference title under the direction of head coach Jorge Salcedo. The Bruins finished the 2012 season 13-3-3 with an NCAA Tournament appearance. Six starters return for UCLA, including senior Reed Williams who earned third-team NSCAA All-West Region and first-team All-Pac-12 honors. 

All six Pac-12 teams will open the 2013 season Aug. 30-Sept. 1. Pac-12 men’s soccer will receive extensive coverage as 28 matches will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks throughout the year. For more information and to view the 2013 television schedule, visit www.pac-12.com
