Roundup: High hopes for Arizona State

Arizona State

There’s one game on the ledger tonight, as Arizona State takes the field for the first time this year. Let’s get the keys to victory against Sacramento State, the team the Sun Devils face at 7 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks. The Forks have a lot of positive expectations for this year, and now it’s time for Arizona State to meet its high hopes.

USC

Know who will be lining up under center for the Men of Troy Saturday night against Washington State? Neither does anyone else – even guys on the football team, because Lane Kiffin is staying coy about No. 25 USC's starting QB. Cody Kessler or Max Wittek? Those two guys know (as does Lane), you’ll have to watch the game to find out.

Utah

With such an amazing opening game for someone who had never played a game of college football before last Thursday, Andy Phillips is kicking his way into celebrity status. The former skier is a pretty tough dude, as you’ll find out if you read this article from Lya Wodraska of the Salt Lake Tribune.

Washington

Hear from Washington’s Deontae Cooper on his long-awaited debut. “It was special,” said the guy who ran for eight yards on six carries in his first game in a Husky uniform after three major knee injuries.

Oregon

Hey by chance did you happen to see that the bottom of Oregon’s cleats are shiny? Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports might not like ‘em, but this blogger thinks they look AWESOME. Do you, Oregon; never stop doing you. Also, Terrance Mitchell addressed his ejection from the Ducks’ opener—the cornerback was tossed from the game for targeting Nicholls State quarterback Beaux Hebert.

California

Congrats to Cal kicker Vincenzo D’Amato for being selected as a Senior CLASS Award candidate; he is one of 30 candidates for the honor. Other Pac-12 candidates include Alden Darby, Jake Fischer, Andrew Furney and Will Sutton.

UCLA

A very good sign in Westwood, as UCLA cornerback Marcus Rios comes back from a life-threatening infection. After getting a fungal infection last winter, Rios could be back in the lineup as soon as Oct. 3 against Utah.

Oregon State

In this video posted by The Oregonian, the Beavers’ defense is out to prove that the loss to Eastern Washington was “just a bad day”.

Arizona

Playing a big role in Arizona’s 35-0 W over Northern Arizona Friday night, the linebackers are a bright spot for the Wildcats early in the season.

Colorado

For a multitude of reasons, the Buffs are not overlooking Central Arkansas. For starters, the Bears are ranked 6th in the latest FCS poll and the Buffs are just 1-2 against FCS squads all-time, losing their last outing to Sacramento State.

Stanford

After a long offseason, the final details are ready for Stanford football. A bunch of good tidbits here from David Lombardi about the upcoming season opener against San Jose State.

Washington State

CougCenter thinks Deone Bucannon is the most important player vs. USC. Do you agree, Crimson and Gray supporter? And while we’re on their site, this link is a few days old but nonetheless pretty amusing, as Washington State fans drank a bar in Auburn out of beer.
