ARIZONA STATE'S MARSHALL, UCLA'S ROWLAND NAMED PAC-12 WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA STATE forward Devin Marshall and UCLA goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland were named Pac-12 Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the week of September 2-8, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today. 

Marshall, a senior from Bonita, Calif., earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after netting four goals and one assist as the Sun Devils went unbeaten over the weekend, knocking off Illinois, 4-3, in double-overtime on Friday, and taking down Kansas, 4-0, on Sunday in the Sun Devil Classic. Against the Fighting Illini, Marshall found the back of the net twice, tying the score at 2-2 and 3-3, then assisted on the game-winning goal in double-overtime. She collected two more goals in the win over the Jayhawks to give her nine points on the weekend, earning her the honor of Most Valuable Player of the tournament. She moved into eighth place on the team’s all-time list with 21 career goals. 

Rowland, a junior from Vacaville, Calif., was named Defensive Player of the Week after tallying 11 saves as the Bruins went 1-1 at the Duke Nike Classic in Durham, N.C. In a 1-0 loss to No.1-ranked North Carolina on Friday, she posted a career-high seven saves that kept UCLA within striking distance of the defending national champions. Facing the No. 12 Blue Devils on Sunday, the Bruins’ fourth-straight game against a ranked opponent, Rowland protected a shutout until the final seconds of the game as UCLA posted a 2-1 victory. Named to the All-Tournament team, she recorded the 100th save of her career in the second half against Duke to move into a tie for 6th place on the team’s all-time saves list. 

This is the first-career weekly honor for both Marshall and Rowland and the 15th and 37th overall for Arizona State and UCLA, respectively. The Sun Devils will stay in-state and head to Tucson where they take on Texas Tech on Friday at 4:30 p.m. MT, and Southern Utah on Sunday at 11 a.m. MT as part of the Arizona Cats Classic Tournament. The No. 5/6 Bruins finally return home after two weekends on the road to host San Diego State on Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT, airing live on the Pac-12 Networks.
