Men’s Tennis Kicks Off Fall Season in Napa Valley

TUCSON, Ariz.Tad Berkowitz enters his eighth season as the head coach for Arizona men’s tennis on Friday, as they begin their 2013 fall campaign this weekend in the Napa Valley Collegiate Invitational in Napa Valley, Calif.

The tournament will run Friday, Sept. 13 through Sunday, Sept. 15 and will feature four players from the program.

Seniors Mario Urquidi and Kieren Thompson, along with junior Sumeet Shinde and sophomore Naoki Takeda will open the individual seasons for the Wildcats.

The program’s other senior, Fredrik Ask, will wait to debut in the ITA All-American Championships at the end of the month.

In addition to Arizona, the Napa Valley Collegiate Invitational will host UNLV, San Francisco, Idaho, FresnoState, and OklahomaState. The tournament takes on a format in which the Wildcats will compete against a different team each day.

Arizona returns nine players from last year’s roster and will compete in seven tournaments this fall.
