Stanford women's soccer's Emily Oliver announces medical retirement
A tearful Emily Oliver announced her medical retirement Thursday night prior to the kickoff of Stanford's match with Saint Mary's at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. Oliver, a senior goalkeeper who has been a rock at the back end of the Cardinal's defense since stepping into the position her freshman season, was forced to call it quits due to a nagging injury that has hindered her for parts of two seasons. She was named to the Pac-10/Pac-12 all-conference team all three seasons prior to 2013 and served as the goalkeeper on Stanford's national championship team in 2011. A somber ending to an illustrious career.
