Arizona State’s Marshall, Stanford’s Campbell Named Pac-12 Women’s Soccer Players of the Week

Oct 1, 2013

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- ARIZONA STATE forward Devin Marshall was named Offensive Player of the Week and STANFORD goalkeeper Jane Campbell was named Defensive Player of the Week for Pac-12 Women’s Soccer for the week of Sept. 23-29, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.

Marshall, a senior from Bonita, Calif., earned Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring the game-winning goal with 19 seconds left in the Sun Devils’ 1-0 win over USC in the Pac-12 opener for both teams. Marshall returned to the game after being shaken up earlier in the second half to notch her third game-winning score of the season and seventh of her career, moving her into a tie for sixth place all-time in team history. Marshall is currently tied for seventh in the Pac-12 in goals scored (6) and goals per game (.67).

Campbell, a freshman from Kennesaw, Ga., earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after earning her second-career shutout in a 2-0 victory over Colorado on Saturday. She improved her record to 6-0-0 since taking over for injured senior keeper Emily Oliver. Campbell has stepped up to the challenge after having some big shoes to fill as Oliver, a former All-American and goalkeeper of the Cardinal’s 2011 national championship team, was forced to retire in September due to medical issues. The win was Stanford’s 43rd consecutive Pac-12 victory.

Marshall’s second-career weekly offensive honor is also her second on the season, marking the first Pac-12 multi-award winner in 2013. It is also the 16th overall for ASU. Campbell’s honor is the first of her young career and the 38th all-time for Stanford, the most of any school in the Conference.

These two will face off as Pac-12 play continues this weekend when Stanford hosts Arizona State on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. PT in a game that will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks. On Friday the Sun Devils will take on the Golden Bears of California at 2 p.m. PT, while the Cardinal welcome Arizona at 4 p.m. PT, both of which are set to be broadcast live on the Pac-12 Networks.
