WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Senior Brandon Hagy became the sixth straight Cal player to earn Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Month honors when he was selected by the conference Wednesday for September of 2013. Last season, Cal became the first team to sweep Pac-12 Men’s Golfer of the Month honors when Max Homa and Michael Kim won twice each and Joël Stalter on the other occasion.

Hagy had an incredible September to start his 2013-14 senior campaign with first, second and third-place finishes in his first three events of the season. Hagy was victorious for the second time in his career in his most recent tournament at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational to lead Cal to a 19-stroke victory. He was also second at the Gopher Invitational and third at the Saint Mary’s Invitational, where Cal won by 30 strokes.

Hagy has a 69.4 stroke average and has shot par or better in each of his nine rounds in 2013-14.

Cal has won two of its first three events this season after winning 12 of 14 stroke-play events a year ago and finishing the campaign ranked No. 1 despite being defeated by Illinois in an NCAA semifinal match. Cal has won 20 of its last 31 stroke-play events dating back to the start of the 2011-12 campaign and finished in the top five in all 31.

“It’s a huge honor to be named Pac-12 Player of the Month,” Hagy said. “The Pac-12 is the best conference in the country and this award validates a lot of hard work that I have put in.”

“Brandon is very deserving of this honor,” added head coach Steve Desimone. “He has been in contention in all three of our tournaments so far this year and it was great to see him in the winners’ circle his last time out. My guess is he’s not done yet. I’m proud of him and happy for him. This is richly deserved.”

Cal returns to action October 14-15 when the Bears host the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at the Sonoma Golf Club in Sonoma.
