Cal’s Hendrickson Earns Third NorPac Honor

Oct 8, 2013

BERKELEY – California junior goalkeeper Courtney Hendrickson has been named the NorPac West Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after her record breaking weekend in goal for the Bears.

Hendrickson saved 30 shots in two games over the weekend and initially tied her career high with 12 saves at No. 7 Duke on Friday before setting a new career and program best with 18 saves at No. 3 North Carolina. After previously setting identical career highs of 12 saves in each of Cal’s other games this season against ranked teams on the road (No. 12 Northwestern & No. 8 Stanford in addition to No. 7 Duke), Hendrickson was called into action early and often against the Tar Heels and saved 18 of 22 shots on target by the third-ranked Tar Heels.

Her 18 saves bests the previous Golden Bear record of 17 saves set just one season ago by Joelle van Hoorn at No. 7 Penn State. Hendrickson’s 18 saves are second-most by a goalkeeper in the NorPac this year.

Hendrickson currently ranks fifth in the NCAA with a .796 save percentage on the season, and she is 11th nationally with an average of 7.82 saves per game.

The Bears return to California next weekend with a home game against Yale on Saturday (Oct. 12) and a road game at UC Davis on Sunday (Oct. 13).
