Oct 8, 2013

The Arizona men’s golf team finished 12th at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate with a total of 902 (+62). The Wildcats shot 294 (+14) as a group in Tuesday’s final round.

Senior Erik Oja was a bright spot for UA on Tuesday, firing a four-under 66 to bring his total to 212 (+2) for the tournament. The performance, which was the best round in the field on Tuesday, moved Oja from a tie for 27th into a tie for eighth.

The finish also marked Oja’s third top-10 effort in four starts this season.

“Erik is among the best in college golf, and he continues to prove that on the course,” Arizona head coach Jim Anderson said. “His round today is just another example of the fact that he can compete with anyone. We’re happy for him and we hope that he’ll continue to use events like this to build confidence for the future.”

Other Wildcat finishes included senior Benson Liu in 56th (228), junior Alex McMahon in 58th (234), junior Tucker Wadkins in 59th (236) and senior Christian Colegrove in 60th (242).

The Wildcats will take a weekend off before wrapping up their fall campaign at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate from Oct. 21-22 in Las Cruces, N.M. For more information on Arizona men’s golf, follow @UAWildcatsGolf on Twitter.
