Washington’s Peay tabbed men’s soccer Player of the Week

Oct 8, 2013

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON defender Taylor Peay was voted the Pac-12 men’s soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 1-7, the Conference office announced today.

Peay, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, anchored the Huskies through the opening weekend of Conference play, scoring two goals as Washington earned a win and a tie on the road in the Bay Area. The senior defender netted the game-winner on Friday against Stanford, heading in a corner kick in the 78th minute as Washington would go on to win, 3-1. Peay scored the lone goal for the Dawgs on Sunday in a 1-1 tie at No. 1 California, another header off of a corner kick. He now has a team-leading six goals on just eight shots this season, which is also tied for first in the Pac-12.

The honor is Peay’s second-career weekly nod, his first coming earlier this year as he was named player of the week for Sept. 10. Peay is the first Pac-12 player to earn two weekly honors in a season since San Diego State’s Miles Byass received two honors in 2011. It is Washington’s 28th player of the week honor all-time.

No. 3 Washington travels to face Seattle University for a non-conference match on Tuesday, Oct. 8, before hosting Oregon State in their sole Pac-12 game of the weekend.

Pac-12 Networks will feature the Huskies six more times this season. Pac-12 men’s soccer will have 28 matches overall air on the Pac-12 Networks. For the full television schedule, visit www.pac-12.com
