Men’s Golf in 12th at Wimberly Intercollegiate
The Arizona men’s golf team finished the first day of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in 12th place with a total of 599 (+31).
The Wildcats bounced back from a 305 (+21) in the first round with a collective 294 (+10) in the afternoon, moving from 15th to 12th place at the end of the day’s competition.
Much like the Arizona team as a whole, senior Erik Oja had a bounce-back afternoon, shooting a sizzling 65 (-6) to finish the day with a total of 144 (+2). Oja’s second-round effort, the best 18-hole total of his college career, placed him in a 13th-place tie with Tuesday’s final round left to play.
Junior Alex McMahon was also in red numbers after Monday’s afternoon session, shooting 70 (-1) to get to 147 (+5) for the day. He will start play tomorrow in a tie for 25th place.
Junior Brenden Redfern paced Arizona with a 72 (+1) in the morning round, and finished the day in a tie for 40th place with a total of 150 (+8). Junior Dylan Kornberg and freshman Bertrand Mommaerts each shot 160 (+18) on Monday and are tied for 88th place.
Senior Benson Liu, playing as an individual, shot 151 (+9) on Monday and stands in a tie for 51st place with 18 holes to play.
