Stunning upsets as Pac-12 volleyball nears halfway mark

No team is safe as the halfway point of the Pac-12 volleyball season approaches. Once un-ranked ARIZONA stunned the nation with an upset over No. 1 USC in one of many matches that prove just how competitive the Conference is this year. The Wildcats’ sweep of the Trojans was their first win over a No. 1 team since Nov. 3, 1993, when Arizona beat then-No. 1 UCLA ... Speaking of UCLA, the Bruins notched an upset of their own over No. 22 ARIZONA STATE, which marked the 11th upset posted by a Pac-12 team over the course of the season ... Three Pac-12 teams remain in the top six of the AVCA National Coaches poll with five ranked altogether. WASHINGTON is the highest-ranked league squad at No. 3, followed by No. 4 USC and No. 6 STANFORD. OREGON is No. 20 and the Wildcats enter the poll for the first time this season and stand at No. 25. Arizona’s ranking marks the eighth different Pac-12 team to earn a top-25 ranking at least once this season ... Three more Pac-12 teams are receiving votes in the national poll this week, including ARIZONA STATE, CALIFORNIA and UCLA ... Nine matches are again slated to be televised on the Pac-12 Networks. The week begins with a top-20 clash between No. 20 Oregon and No. 6 Stanford in the Bay Area on Wednesday. The week is capped by a top-five clash between the Huskies and the Trojans on Sunday in Los Angeles. The potential battle for first place also wraps up a full day of volleyball on the Pac-12 Networks ... ARIZONA’s Madi Kingdon was voted the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, while WASHINGTON’s Krista Vansant was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. The Wildcats’ Penina Snuka was selected the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week.
