Washington’s Roldan named men’s soccer Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - WASHINGTON midfielder Cristian Roldan was voted the Pac-12 men’s soccer Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21, the Conference office announced today.
Roldan, a native of Pico Rivera, Calif., scored three goals over the course of the weekend on five shots to help the Huskies to back-to-back victories over Oregon State and San Diego State. The freshman also tallied two assists in the victory over the Aztecs. Roldan had been playing left midfield up until this week, but was switched to attacking center this past week and adapted to the new position. His 12 points are tied for second on the Washington squad and tied for eighth in the Pac-12, while his 30 shots are the third-most in the Conference.
The honor is Roldan’s first-career weekly accolade, and it is the third honor for a Husky this season as teammate Taylor Peay has earned two player of the week awards this year. It also marks the 29th all-time award for Washington.
Washington travels south to face San Diego State and UCLA this weekend on Friday and Sunday, respectively. The match versus the Bruins on Sunday will be broadcast live on Pac-12 Networks.
Pac-12 Networks will feature the Huskies three more times this season, including next week’s game. Pac-12 men’s soccer will have 28 matches overall air on the Pac-12 Networks. For the full television schedule, visit www.pac-12.com.
Also Nominated: Steve Birnbaum, CAL; Matt Bersano, OSU; Abraham Villon, SDSU; Earl Edwards Jr., UCLA.
