Women’s Basketball Posts 94-47 Exhibition Win
PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State women’s basketball cruised to a 94-47 exhibition victory over The Master’s College in Beasley Coliseum Wednesday.
Five players scored in double figures for the Cougars who knocked down 14 threes and scored 42 points off of 33 turnovers. Junior guard Tia Presley led all scorers with 18 points while sophomore guard Lia Galdeira tallied 17 points and five steals and senior forward Sage Romberg notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Brandi Thomas and sophomore forward Mariah Cooks each scored 12 points.
Washington State used a 19-5 run midway through the first half to build a 43-26 advantage at the break. Presley had 12 points and Galdeira added 10 in the first 20 minutes as WSU knocked down six threes. Galdeira also recorded four steals, center Shalie Dheensaw blocked three shots and the Cougars held the Mustangs to 30.8 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers in the first half.
The Cougars pulled away early in the second half with a 15-0 run highlighted by threes from Presley, Galdeira and sophomore guard Taylor Edmondson. The defense continued to dial up the pressure in the second frame, holding the Mustangs to 28 percent shooting and forcing 16 more turnovers.
Washington State finished with 16 steals and six blocks, three from junior center Shalie Dheensaw. Zoe Scott led The Master’s with nine points. WSU shot over 45 percent in the game and held the Mustangs to 29.4 percent from the floor.
Washington State opens the season Nov. 10 hosting Syracuse University at 1 p.m. in Beasley Coliseum.
