Canned food drive planned for Pac-12 Cross Country Championships

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- The University of Colorado Athletics department, which is hosting the 2013 Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2, is inviting fans attending the event to participate in the canned food drive. Donations will benefit Boulder’s Harvest of Hope Pantry and Flood Relief.

The championships are being held at the Coal Creek Golf Course (585 W. Dillon Road, Louisville, CO 80027) and will be open to fans beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday until 1 p.m. Admission to the event is free. Food donations should be in the form of non-perishable foods. Collection buckets will also be available at the event to accept cash or checks.

Harvest of Hope provides healthy supplemental food to Boulder families and individuals in need of food assistance within a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental environment. Financial donations instead of — or in addition to — a food donation can also be made by visiting HopePantry.org/donate. You can also mail a check made payable to “Harvest of Hope Pantry” to 2960 Valmont Road, Boulder, CO 80301.

Nine men’s teams and 12 women’s teams will be competing for the Conference crowns. Nine nationally-ranked teams in total will be racing on Saturday, including the No. 1-ranked COLORADO men’s team and No. 1-ranked ARIZONA women’s squad. The Buffs are going for a third-straight league title, while the OREGON women will attempt to defend its crown from a year ago.

The first starting gun goes off at 10:40 a.m. MT for the men’s race, followed by the women’s race at 11:40 a.m. MT. For more information on the championships and where to park, visit pac-12.com/championships/cross-country.
