Women’s Golf Wraps Up Fall Season

KONA, Hawaii The Oregon State women’s golf team wrapped up its fall season with a tie for ninth place at the two-day, 54-hole Pac-12 Preview on Tuesday.
Tournament officials moved the tees back 351 yards for the final round of the inaugural event, making the scores higher than the opening 36-hole day, as the Beavers shot a 24-over 316 on Tuesday after opening with a 2-over 294 and 20-over 312. The 46-over 922 put Oregon State in a tie for ninth with Washington State and ahead of Colorado and Hawaii.
USC was the only team to hit red digits in the final round, posting a 3-under 289, to come from behind and win with a 15-under 861, which was a stroke better than UCLA’s 14-under 862. Washington held the clubhouse lead after the first day but slipped to third place with a 7-under 869.
Sophomore Ashlee Pickerell, who shot a career-best 2-under 71 on Monday, was the Beavers’ highest finisher on the individual leaderboard with a 4-over 73-71-79--223 that put her in a tie for 22nd place.

Senior Seshia Telles fired a team-best 3-over 76 at the par-73, 6,463-yard Nanea Golf Club on Tuesday to move up the leaderboard into a tie for 40th with an 11-over 75-79-76--230.
Sophomore Chelsea Saelee finished with a 16-over 75-81-79--235 for a tie 49th, junior Anica Yoo was two strokes back with an 18-over 71-83-83--237 to finish in sole 51st and senior Lauren Sewell concluded play with a 20-over 76-81-82--239 for a tie for 55th place.
Bronte Law of UCLA held off a late charge by USC’s Annie Park to claim medalist honors by a stroke with an 8-under 70-65-76--211.
“It was a tough day for the Beavs at Nanea,” Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. “We had some good moments but faltered coming in. Seshia had a gutsy performance today under tough scoring conditions. She really hung in there with a great deal of patience and perseverance and was able to overcome a less than spectacular ball striking day by having a great short game day. Those are the kind of things we will work on in the offseason; learning to score in adverse conditions.
“I am looking forward to the offseason so that we can evaluate the players’ strengths and weaknesses and strengthen their games. All in all, we had some great opportunities this fall and we will move forward into the spring season with a great deal of confidence.”
The Beavers had a successful fall season with a team title at the Rose City Collegiate and second-place finish at the Topy Cup in Japan. Also, Yoo became the first Oregon State player in 16 years to win an individual title when she won the Rose City Collegiate.
The Beavers will open their spring season on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the two-day Peg Bernard Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif.
