When her header missed, Taylor Uhl didn’t panic. The junior forward kicked her rebound back inside the left post to give Stanford a first-half lead. Uhl’s 11th goal of the season, most on the team, was all the Cardinal would need Friday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium, as Stanford held on to beat Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, in the NCAA women’s soccer tournament first round. The Cardinal (14-5-1) has a week off before heading down to UCLA to take on third-seed South Carolina next Friday.
UCLA wins NCAA 1st Round Match vs. SDSU, 3-0
It was smooth sailing for the Bruins in the first round of the NCAA women’s soccer tournament. No. 2 UCLA scored a goal in the first minute of Friday night’s game and tacked on two more to cruise past San Diego State, 3-0. With their 14th shutout of the season, the Bruins (18-1-2) advance to the second round, where they will host Kentucky next Friday.
Utah Soccer Ousted From College Cup by Texas A&M in OT, 1-0
After recording its best regular season since joining the Pac-12 and earning its sixth NCAA tournament bid in program history, the Utah women’s soccer team was no easy prey for No. 13 Texas A&M. The Utes forced overtime in their first-round matchup but could not pull off the upset, falling 1-0 to the Aggies in College Station, Texas. Texas A&M had the edge over Utah (10-5-6) in shots and corner kicks, yet the score remained tied until the second minute of overtime.
