Game Storylines» No. 5/4 Arizona will open the NIT Season Tip-Off on Monday against Fairleigh Dickinson with head coach Sean Miller needing just one win to become the fifth coach in program history to reach the 100-win mark at UA.
» The Wildcats are coming off a hard-fought road win over San Diego State, as Nick Johnson scored a game-high 23 points and Aaron Gordon added 16 points and eight boards to propel Arizona to victory.
» UA is 29-4 (.879) under Miller in non-conference home games and has won its last nine non-con games at McKale Center; the Wildcats are 20-5 (.800) under Miller in the month of November.
» Now in his fifth season in Tucson, Miller continues to honor a process that has seen him lead UA to a Pac-12-best 83-28 (.748) record since the start of the 2010-11 campaign.
» UA is striving to continue an upward trend that saw the Wildcats progress from 108th nationally in adjusted defense in 2009-10 to 32nd nationally a year ago; the Wildcats have limited opponents to 32.9 percent shooting from the field and 33.3 percent from long range over their first three games.
» The Wildcats have been balanced on the offensive end to start the season, with four players averaging double figures heading into Monday night’s contest; those four players are all averaging between 6.0-10.7 field goal attempts per game and are collectively shooting 57.6 percent (57-of-99) from the field.
» Pac-12 assists leader T.J. McConnell has orchestrated an offensive attack that is operating at 53.2 percent from the floor, while averaging 27.3 free throw attempts in its first two games; UA has had an assist on more than 55 percent (47-of-83) of its field goals in its first three games.
» Sean Miller’s biggest Arizona team has been lethal in the paint over the season’s first three games, more than doubling its opponents’ output in the same area; UA is +20.0 points per game in the paint on average this season.
» UA is shooting 60.0 percent from two-point range this season, while limiting opponents to 32.7 percent shooting inside the arc.
» Thanks in part to its interior success, UA’s rotation players have combined to shoot 38.9 percent from beyond the arc in three games; the team is averaging 13.7 three-point attempts per game after averaging more than 20 a year ago.
» UA has gotten great production from Gordon and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson in the early going; Gordon has a pair of double-doubles and is averaging 14.3 points and a team-high 9.3 rebounds, while Hollis-Jefferson leads the Wildcats in free throw attempts (19) and steals (4).
