Kibby Leads Beavers in Day Two of Las Vegas Invite

LAS VEGAS – Senior Crystal Kibby recorded two top-10 finishes, as the Oregon State swimming team competed in the second day of the Las Vegas Invitational Friday. Kibby placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a finals time of 1:03.85, and took sixth in the 400 IM at 4:23.97. Kibby’s 100 breaststroke time was the ninth-best time for that event in school history.
Sophomore Sammy Harrison placed 10th in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:49.24. Fellow sophomore Amani Amr took 13th in the 100 backstroke at 56.81. Amr was followed by freshman Sophie MacEwan in 28th (57.67) and junior Dakota Bloch in 45th (58.93).
Senior Aya Fujimura took 19th in the 100 butterfly, clocking a time of 56.55. She was followed by freshman Brooke Meyer, who placed 23rd in the event (57.01). Sophomore Constance Toulemonde took 40th in the 100 butterfly (57.69), while MacEwan placed 45th (57.76) and freshman Andrea Young finished 47th (57.96).
Freshman Czsarina Isleta followed Kibby with a 20th-place finish in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.17). Classmates Chelsea Chan (1:06.55) and Young (1:07.16) took 21st and 30th, respectively. Fellow freshman Alice Ochs placed 36th (1:08.20), while Maranda Alf-Huynh finished 39th (1:08.71) and Claire McLaggan took 42nd (1:09.61).
Chan finished behind Kibby in the 400 IM, recording a time of 4:42.14, good for 39th. Bloch finished 38th in the 200 freestyle (1:53.75), followed by Meyer in 44th (1:54.40).
The squad of Bloch, Harrison, Toulemonde and Meyer placed eighth in the 800 freestyle relay (7:34.25), while the team of Amr, Kibby, Fujimura and MacEwan took 11th in the 200 medley relay (1:45.04)
As a team, the Beavers finished the day in sixth with 143 points.
The Las Vegas Invitational will conclude tomorrow.
