BOULDER, Colo. – Kelsey Zimmerman tallied a team-best 12 kills but the Oregon State volleyball team was edged in three sets by Colorado Friday at the Coors Event Center.
Set scores were 26-28, 21-25 and 20-25.
“Unfortunately, in our first set we made some untimely errors (while leading) and from then on it was about our confidence,” Oregon State head coach Taras Liskevych said. “Our hitting fell off, especially on the outside. Kelsey and Amanda (Brown), however, both hit well tonight. We just have to sustain our hitting on the outside. We also struggled defensively tonight.”
Zimmerman’s 12 kills came on 27 attacks and the redshirt junior finished with a .333 hitting percentage to lead the Beavers (9-19, 0-17 Pac-12 Conference), who posted a .179 mark as a team. The Buffaloes (16-11, 8-9), meanwhile, finished at .301, led by Alexis Austin’s 13.
The teams were relatively equal defensively as the Beavers posted seven blocks and 32 digs. Colorado matched OSU with seven blocks and finished with three more digs.
Brown, who had nine kills, led Oregon State with four blocks and was followed closely by Laura Schaudt’s three. Lila Toner had 10 digs to pace the Beavers, while Becky Defoe had six to give her 1,973 for her career. She needs 27 to become the 10th player in Pac-12 history to reach 2,000.
The Beavers held leads at various points in the first two sets, buoyed by a .233 hitting percentage in the first set and .222 mark in set two. Oregon State, however, was limited to a .037 percentage in set three.
The Buffaloes, meanwhile, finished at .333 in each of the first two sets and .200 in the third set.
Oregon State returns to action Sunday for an 11 a.m. PT match at Utah. The match will not be aired on television but fans will find a free live video stream by visiting the schedule page on osubeavers.com. Live stats can also be found at the online home of the Beavers.
