Football’s Randall, Gonzalez Earn Pac-12 Player Of The Week Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Arizona State University safety Damarious Randall and kicker Zane Gonzalez have earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors after leading ASU to a 58-21 Territorial Cup win over Arizona on Nov. 30, the conference announced today.
A Sun Devil has now won conference defensive player of the week honors in each of the past three weeks, which has not been done by any other school in the Pac-12 this season. ASU football student-athletes have earned Pac-12 Player of the Week honors seven times this season, which is the most of any school in the Pac-12 this season and the most in school history since eight were recognized in 1996.

Randall, a redshirt junior from Pensacola, Fla., was responsible for two turnovers as he returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and also forced a fumble. He also notched a game-high 12 tackles, including a four-yard tackle for loss.
Randall’s 64-yard interception return for a touchdown was a turning point in the victory as it came on the Wildcats second drive of the second half after UA opened the third quarter with a 7-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. Randall’s touchdown stretched ASU’s lead back to 23 points, 37-14.
Gonzalez, a true freshman from Deer Park, Texas, accounted for 16 points in the win as he connected on all 10 of his kicks, including all three field goals and all seven extra points.
Gonzalez has now made a school-record 18 consecutive field goals dating back to Sept. 28 against USC. He has made 22 field goals (22-for-25, 88 percent) and 58 extra points this season for a 124 total points, the most in a single season by an ASU kicker, breaking the previous record of 118 set by Thomas Weber in 2007 and Mike Barth in 2002. Gonzalez’s 124 points this season are second in ASU history for any player behind Whizzer White’s 136 in 1950.
Randall, Gonzalez and redshirt junior linebacker Carl Bradford also erned Week 14 College Football Performance Award honors.
