This week in Pac-12 men's basketball
• Scoring up from last season... Compared to this point last season, only one team averaged better than 80.0 ppg through the first three weeks of the season (ARIZONA at 85.2 ppg). This year, six teams are scoring at a rate of better than 80.0 ppg, led by UCLA (90.9 ppg) and UTAH (90.7 ppg). . . Likewise for individual scoring where only Allen Crabbe of California was posting 20.0 or more points per game (22.4 ppg) at this point last season. This season, seven Pac-12 players are averaging 20.0 or more points per game, led by OREGON STATE’s Roberto Nelson (25.4 ppg).
• The undefeated: ARIZONA is off to its best start since, well, last year when the Wildcats opened the season at 14-0... Oregon’s 7-0 start is its best since going 13-0 to begin 2006-07 season. Likewise for UCLA as it opened the 2006-07 season with a 14-0 record... However, you need to go back to the 1997-98 season to find a better start for the UTAH Utes when they opened the season at 18-0 on the way to a NCAA national runner-up finish.
• ARIZONA, OREGON and UCLA continue to be ranked in both polls this week. The Wildcats move up to No. 2 in the AP and the Coaches poll, while the Ducks are No. 13 in both, with the Bruins at No. 18/No. 17.
