Pac-12 women’s volleyball scores for Thursday, Dec. 5

Dec 5, 2013

Stanford Dominates Hampton

The Stanford women’s volleyball team entered the NCAA tournament having won nine straight matches. In Thursday’s first-round tilt, Hampton did little to threaten the streak, as the Cardinal ran away with the match for a 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-11) victory. The Lady Pirates, in their first NCAA tournament, managed just a .022 hitting percentage against perennial powerhouse Stanford (25-5), stay home at Maples Pavilion to take on Oklahoma on Friday.

Trojans Trample New Hampshire in Three For First-Round Victory

It doesn’t take a volleyball expert to know that .013 is a pretty woeful hitting percentage. New Hampshire could not get anything by USC in opening round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday, amassing one more killer than error at the Galen Center. Needless to say, the Trojans won in a sweep (25-9, 25-10, 25-12), dumbfounding the Wildcats with a powerful defensive front and a efficient offense — they finished with a cool .571 hitting percentage. USC (27-5) moves on to face Cal State Northridge Friday in the second round.
