Soccer Cats Earn NSCAA Nods

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona women’s soccer was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for posting an overall team grade point average of 3.21. The Wildcats were one of 59 women’s NCAA teams to post a cumulative grade point average above 3.0.
Senior forward Jazmin Ponce was named NSCAA Women’s All-Pacific Region Second-Team. Ponce was also named 2013 Pac-12 First-Team All-Conference as well as Pac-12 Second-Team by College Sports Madness.
Ponce recorded a total of 92 shot attempts, five assists, five game-winning goals and 10 goals. A native of Lawndale, Calif., she led the Pac-12 in shots and game-winning goals for three weeks in a row.
Junior Brie DeFelice, sophomore Sheaffer Skadsen, junior Julia Glanz, senior Shannon Heinzler, junior Emily Lai, sophomore Kaitlyn Lopez, junior Mykaylin Rosenquist and sophomore Hannah Wong earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention accolades. To be eligible for selection to the academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be a starter or significant contributor.
Arizona women’s soccer finished the 2013 season with an overall record of 9-7-4, earning the first winning record the Wildcats have seen since 2005.
