Ka’Deem Carey Named Consensus All-American
TUCSON, Ariz. – University of Arizona junior running back Ka’Deem Carey has earned consensus All-America honors for the 2013 season with the announcement of the American Football Coaches’ Association (AFCA) and Football Writers’ Association of America (FWAA) All-America teams on Wednesday.
Previously, Carey had been named to the Walter Camp Football Foundation (WCFF) and Associated Press (AP) All-America teams. In order to be considered a consensus All-American, a player must be featured on three of the five recognized teams (AFCA, FWAA, AP, WCFF and Sporting News).
Carey is Arizona’s fourth two-time consensus All-American, joining Ricky Hunley (1982-83), Rob Waldrop (1992-93) and Tedy Bruschi (1994-95). The Tucson native was Arizona’s first offensive consensus All-American in 2012 and is now UA’s only two-time offensive consensus honoree.
In total for 2013, Ka’Deem Carey has been named to 12 All-America teams, including ESPN.com, Sports Illustrated, CBSSports.com and USA Today.
On the season, Carey has 1,716 yards on 322 attempts with 17 touchdowns. He averages 5.3 yards per carry and 156.0 yards per game (No. 2 nationally). He’s also hauled in 26 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown. He’s rushed for 100+ yards in 15-straight games, both Arizona and Pac-12 records.
By a vote of league coaches, Carey was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year and was the only unanimous player voted first-team All-Pac-12. He is a two-time first-team all-conference honoree and is the first Wildcat to be named the conference’s offensive player of the year.
A finalist for the Doak Walker Award who finished 10th in the Heisman Trophy voting, Carey is Arizona’s all-time leading rusher and career touchdowns leader. Carey has 4,070 career rushing yards and 50 total touchdowns. He surpassed Trung Canidate (3,824 yards from 1996-99) for the rushing mark and Art Luppino (48 touchdowns from 1953-56) for the touchdown record. Added up, Carey owns 21 school records in single-game, season or career categories.
Arizona will face Boston College, on Dec. 31, in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl, in Shreveport, La. The game will air on ESPN and will kick at 10:30 a.m. MT.
