WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Dec. 16-22. STANFORD’s Chiney Ogwumike was voted the Pac-12 Player of the Week and WASHINGTON’s Kelsey Plum was tabbed the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week. Both are repeat winners in their respective catgories.

Senior forward Chiney Ogwumike (Cypress, Texas) led No. 6/5 Stanford to a pair of wins last week, defeating New Mexico and No. 3/3 Tennessee. Ogwumike scored 32 points in each contest, and Saturday against Tennessee grabbed a season-high 20 rebounds as the Cardinal defeated the Lady Volunteers 76-70. Saturday’s win also marked the first time that Stanford has defeated Tennessee three straight times in the all-time series between the schools. Ogwumike averaged 13.5 rebounds and shot 63.0 percent from the field over the two victories, after grabbing seven boards and shooting 67 percent against UNM.

Freshman guard Kelsey Plum (Poway, Calif.) had a big weekend for the Huskies averaging 18.7 points as UW went 2-1 at the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas. Plum scored at least 18 points in each game, while adding 4.3 rebounds and almost three assists per game in contests versus Louisiana-Monroe (66-55), DePaul (66-73) and Pittsburgh (76-69). Plum committed a combined six turnovers, helping to handle the ball as Washington faced a trapping defense in all three games. Plum shot 42.5 percent for the weekend, including 44 percent from 3-point range. She also made 14-of-15 free throws as boasts a 90 shooting percentage from the line for the season.

It is Ogwumike’s fourth weekly honor of the season and Pac-12 record 13 of her career. It is also Stanford’s 94th all-time weekly nod. Plum garners the weekly freshman honor for the second time this season.

A player of the week has been selected every week since 1986-87, the first year the Conference sponsored women’s sports. A freshman of the week was first selected in 2012-13.

The Cardinal have just one game slated this week, heading to Fresno State for its final non-conference regular-season matchup on Saturday, Dec. 28. The Huskies are off for the week and return to action on Monday, Dec. 30 hosting UC Irvine before opening the Pac-12 slate.
