Plum Earns 2nd Pac-12 Freshman of the Week Honor

Dec 23, 2013

SEATTLEKelsey Plum was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, as announced by the Conference on Monday. It is the second such honor this season for the standout guard, as Plum was also named Freshman of the Week on Nov. 25.

Plum averaged 18.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last week, as the Huskies went 2-1 at the Duel in the Desert in Las Vegas. Plum also shot a combined 14-of-15 from the free-throw line over the three games. In the Huskies win over Pittsburgh on Saturday, Plum shot 5-of-7 from three-point range and 7-of-12 from the field overall to finish with 19 points.

With her second Freshman of the Week honor, Plum joins sophomore Talia Walton as the only Washington freshman to receive the award multiple times since it was instituted last season. Plum, a native of Poway, Calif., is currently 8th in the Pac-12 in scoring, averaging 17.6 points per game. Plum is second in the conference – and first among freshman – in free-throw percentage with a mark of 89.7 percent.

After a break for Christmas, the Huskies (6-4) will return to action with three straight home games, beginning with UC Irvine (6-6) on Monday, Dec. 30 at 7:00 p.m. Then the Huskies open Pac-12 play against Arizona (3-7) on Friday, Jan. 3 at 7:00 p.m. before facing Arizona State (10-1) on Sunday, Jan. 5 at 2:00 p.m.
