Oregon State's Nelson voted Pac-12 men's basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OREGON STATE senior guard Roberto Nelson has been named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for play from Dec. 23-29, the Conference office announced today.
The Santa Barbara, Calif. native averaged 20.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game and shot 26-of-28 from the charity stripe for a .929 free-throw percentage in three games for the Beavers over the course of the week. In the showdown against George Mason, Nelson went a perfect 10-of-10 from the charity stripe and scored a team-high 17 points along with four rebounds, two assists and a steal as OSU won, 58-54. He then went on to score 24 points in the 79-73 loss against Hawai’i, including 9-of-10 from the free-throw line along with five rebounds and two assists. Against Quinnipiac in the final non-conference game of the year, Nelson scored 19 points, sinking 5-of-16 field goals with two three-pointers and 7-of-8 free throws, as well as recording five rebounds, six assists and a steal. The senior currently leads the Pac-12 in scoring, averaging 21.4 points per game.
It marks the second-career Player of the Week selection for Nelson, with his first coming earlier this year on Nov. 18. It is also the 46th weekly selection for Oregon State all-time.
The Beavers open Conference play this week by traveling to face No. 20 Colorado and Utah. Oregon State takes on the Buffs in Boulder on Thursday, Jan. 2 at 8 p.m. MT in a match that will be televised on ESPNU. The Beavers then head to Utah and will play on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 2 p.m. MT and can be seen on Pac-12 Networks.
