Jan 1, 2014

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona women’s golf 2014 National Letter of Intent student-athlete Krystal Quihuis won the 2013 Joanne Winter Arizona Silver Belle Championship. The event, held Dec. 28-30 at Chandler’s Whirlwind Golf Club, is a leading national junior tournament pairing girls and women 13-23 years of age in a 54-hole stroke play championship.

Quihuis, the 2013 SAJGA the Gary P. Durrenberger Award winner, won with rounds of 66, 68 and 68 for a score of 202 (-14). She finished three shots ahead of Vanderbilt University freshman Simin Feng.

"It means so much to me to win this tournament; it's one of the elite tournaments and I feel really privileged and honored to win it," said Quihuis, who shot a 4-under 68 in Monday's final round. "I'd also like to thank all the players because without them I don't think I would have shot 14-under. They really pushed me so I'm thankful because they are making me better."

Quihuis is a two-time state champion and 2013 stat runner-up for Salpointe catholic High School.

The Wildcats begin the 2014 spring schedule with the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge, hosted by Ohio State, in Palos Verdes, Calif. (Feb. 9-11).
