BERKELEY – California women’s basketball signees Mikayla Cowling and Gabby Green have been named 2014 McDonald’s All-Americans and will represent the West in the 13th edition of the McDonald’s High School All-American Game.
Cowling and Green of St. Mary’s in Berkeley are the only high school teammates to earn the prestigious honor this season. Twenty-four girls were selected Wednesday for the game that will take place April 2 at the United Center in Chicago, and California was one of six programs with at least two selections.
The duo – ranked No. 13 as a class by ESPN – become the 11th and 12th Golden Bear signees to be named McDonald’s All-Americans, following in the footsteps of Alexis Gray-Lawson and Devanei Hampton (2005), Gennifer Brandon, Eliza Pierre Tierra Rogers and DeNesha Stallworth (2009), Afure Jemerigbe and Lindsay Sherbert (2010) and Reshanda Gray and Justine Hartman (2011).
