Huskies Outlast St. Mary’s 4-3, To Move To 7-1 On The Season
SEATTLE – The University of Washington women’s tennis team continued its dominant start to the 2014 season with a 4-3 victory over35th-ranked St. Mary’s (California) on Sunday. The Huskies improved to 7-1 on the year and next host Portland on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Noon.
The Dawgs swept the doubles matches to start the day with a 1-0 lead. Shimizu/Douglas-Miron outlasted Parminder Kaur and Jade Frampton 8-5 while Ysidora and Coronel battled to an 8-6 victory over Jenny Jullien and Jamie Pawid. Lastly’ Nemcevic and Lukac handled Danielle Flores and Catherine Leduc, 8-2.
Up one point heading into singles action, the Gaels’ tied up the score with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court one with 13th-ranked JennyJullien outlasting Grace Ysidora. But the Huskies immediately responded as Elianne Douglas-Miron picked up a 6-1, 6-2 win followed by Andjela Nemcevic’s 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Parminder Kaur. Julija Lukac clinched the victory for UW as she handled Danielle Flores, 6-4, 6-1.
Up next for the Dawgs is a Noon match against Portland on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
