Arizona State's Marshall voted Pac-12 men's basketball Player of the Week
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - ARIZONA STATE senior guard Jermaine Marshall has been named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for play from Feb. 10-16, the Conference office announced today.
The senior from Etters, Pa., matched his career high of 29 points, going 11-of-23 from the field and 4-of-8 from three-point range to help the Sun Devils upset No. 2 Arizona at home in a 69-66 double-overtime game. Marshall scored eight of the team’s 12 points in the second overtime to help ASU to the win. He added five rebounds, an assist and a steal while also going 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. It was the highest-ranked opponent Arizona State has ever beaten at home and just the second time ASU has beaten a top-two team. The junior now has 10 20-point games on the year, including six in Pac-12 play.
The selection marks the first-career weekly award for Marshall. It is the 35th player of the week selection for Arizona State all-time. With fellow Sun Devil Jordan Bachynski receiving the honor last week, it is the first time since the 2008-09 season that ASU has had back-to-back player of the week recipients, as James Harden earned it twice in a row on Nov. 24 and Dec. 1, 2008.
The Sun Devils head to the Rockies this weekend, facing Colorado and Utah. Arizona State takes on Colorado on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 9 p.m. MT before traveling to face Utah on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. MT. Both games will be broadcast on ESPNU.
