Pac-12 announces weekly baseball honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. —  ARIZONA outfielder Scott Kingery has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week and UTAH left-handed pitcher Nick Green has been tabbed Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week for Feb. 17-23, the Conference office announced Tuesday.

Kingery, a sophomore from Phoenix, Ariz., helped spark an offensive explosion as the Wildcats won four of five games this week, including a weekend sweep of Alcorn State. He recorded a team-best 10 hits as he batted .500 (10-for-20) in addition to collecting five RBI, five runs scored and seven stolen bases on the week. Kingery scored the walk off run in the 14th inning against Utah Valley University on Tuesday night after singling and stealing a base to get in scoring position. In the three wins against the Braves over the weekend, he was 7-for-11 (.636) and drove in five runs as Arizona outscored Alcorn State 37-2 to pick up the series sweep.

This is Kingery’s first-career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and Arizona’s 61st all-time selection. 

Green, a senior from Holladay, Utah, pitched seven innings in relief in the Utes’ 15-inning 5-4 win over 10th-ranked Indiana. After Indiana scored the game-tying run in the eighth inning, he entered the game with one out and one runner on and struck out the next two batters to end the inning. In his longest-career outing, Green gave up one unearned run after two Ute errors while allowing just three hits and recording nine strikeouts. 

This is Green’s first-career Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week nod and is the first-ever for Utah since joining the Pac-12. 

Arizona continues its home stand this weekend, hosting Seton Hall for a three-game tilt. Utah heads to Callifornia to take on Loyola Marymount for a three-game series starting Friday.
