No. 4 Women’s Golf in 16th at Darius Rucker Intercollegiate

HILTON HEAD, S.C.—The fourth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team is 16th after the first round of competition at the Third Annual Darius Rucker Intercollegiate on Friday. The Sun Devils shot a 27-over 311 at the par-71, 6,142-yard Long Cove Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C.
Defending tournament champion Noemi Jimenez, playing in the No. 1 spot in the Sun Devil lineup, shot an even-par 71, tying her for seventh overall. Although senior Justine Lee (No. 5) carded two birdies on the front nine, Lee struggled to find her rhythm in the first round, shooting an 8-over 79. Lee is tied for 67th overall.
Freshman Monica Vaughn (No. 2) shot a 7-over 78, tying her for 61st with teammate Dani Ordonez, who is playing as an individual. In her first tournament of the spring season, Ordonez struggled with the front nine, tallying five bogeys.
In her second competition as a Sun Devil, Saki Iida (No. 4) shot a 12-over 83, tying her for 80th. Emilie Alonso (No. 3) finished the first round tied for 86th, shooting a 13-over 84.
After the first round, Stephanie Meadow of Alabama sits atop the individual leader board with a 4-under 67. Duke leads the 17-team field with an even-par 284.
The second round of the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate continues tomorrow at the Long Cove Golf Club. Live scoring for the tournament is available at www.golfstat.com.
