Cal Qualifies for NCAA’s, to Compete in Session One

BERKELEY – The No. 9 California Golden Bears have qualified for the NCAA team qualifiers on Thursday, April 10 in Ann Arbor, Mich. at the Crisler Center on the campus of the University of Michigan. The Bears among the field of 12 teams competing for six spots in the NCAA Finals on April 11-12. Cal will be competing in session one at the Crisler Center at approximately 10 a.m. PT next Thursday against No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 Illinois, No. 8 Iowa and No. 12 William and Mary.

Three teams and the top three all-around competitors not on one of the qualifying teams, plus the top three individuals on each event not already qualified on a team or as an all-around competitor, will advance from each pre-qualifying session to the finals session.

The Bears improved by leaps and bounds in 2014 under first-year Associate Head Coach Brett McClure, averaged 428.800 points per meet, which is higher than the team’s season high and previous school-record of 428.650 in 2013. California is led by redshirt senior and co-captain Donothan Bailey, who is also a finalist for the Nissen-Emery Award. Bailey, fellow redshirt senior Jeffrey Langenstein, as well as a stable of sensational sophomores; Ryan Patterson, Kevin Wolting and Kyle Zemeir have each become key contributors to the team’s success.
