Roundup: Stanford gets another shot at UConn

Stanford

The time is almost here for the women’s Final Four, and the last hoops team carrying the Pac-12 torch has quite the task in front of ‘em. Stanford takes on the undefeated UConn Huskies Sunday at about 6 p.m. PT (depending on when Maryland-Notre Dame finishes), and here’s the UConn-Stanford video preview from ESPN. The Huskies might have won the first matchup by 19, but UConn expects a fight from the Stanford women in the Final Four this time around.

California

Want Ann Killion’s two cents on who should succeed Mike Montgomery? She thinks Cal should end its search and name Travis DeCuire head coach. However, it sounds like Cal is reportedly interested in Notre Dame’s Mike Brey.

Washington State

The Ernie Kent hire is bringing buzz back to the Cougars.

Colorado

The Colorado-Colorado State football opener has been moved to Friday, August 29 for TV purposes. Rocky Mountain Showdown, y’all.

Arizona

Chip Patterson of CBS Sports breaks down the buzz over Arizona football, where talking about replacing Ka’Deem Carey and B.J. Denker is king.

USC

Hey if you like Game of Thrones, you’ll love this idea from USC, releasing an infographic entitled “House Sarkisian” that shows Sark’s “family tree” (assistant coaches). I don’t watch the show, but the graphic looks cool.

UCLA

He has been known for his yapping on the field, but silence could be golden for UCLA receiver Devin Lucien, who has put up and shut up so far in spring ball.

Washington

Husky baseball is soaring with its new park and new attitude. Winners of 10 in a row and 17 of its last 18, Washington is 20-5-1 overall and 8-1 in Pac-12 play, good enough for first place (it is also ranked 14th by Baseball America). Big series with 6-3 Oregon this weekend at the newly renovated Husky Ballpark, which is reportedly an absolute gem.

Arizona State

Judging by his batting average (.368, sixth in the Pac-12), you’d never know that Arizona State’s Nathaniel Causey has overcome an elbow injury and a move to first base (used to be a catcher). Dude had Tommy John surgery after the 2013 season but is thriving at his new position this year. ASU hosts USC this weekend.

Oregon State

Nice read from the Portland Tribune on how walk-on Jeff Hendrix is in the center of things for Oregon State. The sophomore center fielder is hitting .457 this season in 46 ABs. In gymnastics news, the Beavers are looking to return to the NCAA championships (they are in the University Park Regional alongside Florida, Kentucky, Maryland, New Hampshire and Penn State on Saturday).

Utah

Utah is also competing in gymnastics regional competition, and the Utes and others had to scramble to travel to NCAA regionals because the short notice and hard-to-get-to places can make it expensive.

Oregon

Wanna watch some track and field on the Pac-12 Networks? Oregon is bracing for the Arizona dual meet. Saturday at 1 p.m. to tune in.
