Strong Start for Women’s Golf at ASU
TUCSON, Ariz. – After round one of the PING/ASU Invitational, No. 9 Arizona women’s golf shares a tie for third place in the team standings. Held at ASU Karsten Golf Course (par 72, 6,223 yards) in Tempe, Ariz., competition will take place Fri.-Sun., April 4-6.
No. 11 Washington leads the team race with a four-under par score of 294. No. 6 Arizona State sits at 287 (-1). No. 9 Arizona and No. 7 South Carolina share third place with rounds of 288 (E). The Cats finished ahead of eight ranked teams, including No. 3 Duke (fifth), No. 2 UCLA (tied for sixth), No. 8 Stanford (10th) and No. 5 Oklahoma (11th). No. 45 Katelyn Dambaugh of South Carolina and No. 54 Ani Gulugian of UCLA lead the individual race after shooting opening rounds of 68 (-4).
No. 36 freshman Wanasa Zhou was Arizona’s top finisher in a three-way tie for third place. She shot a three-under par score of 69 to match her season low, good for her fourth round at or below par this season. No. 81 freshman Jessica Vasilic finished in an eight-way tie for 12th place. She carded a 71 (-1) for her third round at or below par this season.
No. 16 sophomore Lindsey Weaver finished in a nine-way tie for 20th place. She shot a 72 (E) for her eighth round at or below par this season. Junior Manon Gidali sits in a nine-way tie for 48th place with her round of 76. Junior Andrea Vilarasau rounded out the Arizona five in a six-way tie for 72nd place and a round of 80 (+8).
Round two begins at 8:40 a.m. PT for the Wildcats. They’ll be playing with No. 3 Duke and No. 30 Oregon. Live scoring is available at golfstatresults.com.
