NAPA, Calif. – The Oregon State women’s golf team equaled its third-lowest round in school history, an even-par 288 in the afternoon of the Silverado Showdown on Monday, and is only two strokes out of the lead as the Beavers look to win their second team title this season.
The Beavers shot a 7-over 295 in the morning and followed that up with an even-par 288 on the par-72, 6,969-yard North Course at the Silverado Resort and Spa to put them in third place with a 7-over 583. No. 11 Washington leads the 15-team field with a 5-over 289-292--581 and No. 1 USC is second with a 6-over 295-287--582.
The final round of the two-day, 54-hole tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com. The Beavers will be paired with the Huskies and Trojans.
“We still have to play tomorrow and finish this out,” Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. “I am very proud and pleased with how the team performed today. We have been working on changing our team culture and processes. This takes time and I believe they have just turned a good-sized corner in their journey. They played with fight and heart today. It was fun to watch. They all contributed today.”
Oregon State won the Rose City Collegiate earlier this season, its first team title in five years and the ninth in the 39-year history of the program. The Beavers also crushed the single-round school record this season when they posted a 5-under 283 at the Westbrook Spring Invitational. Three of the five best rounds in Oregon State history have been recorded this season
